Signalex Bluetooth Driver Download (Poundland)

FILE DOWNLOAD IS AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS POST.

I recently purchased a Signalex USB Bluetooth dongle from Poundland for - you guessed it - just £1. Windows automatically picks up the dongle and installs basic drivers which only allow for discovering devices, pairing, and sending/receiving files.

I had purchased the dongle because my new sofa has a built-in media bay and Bluetooth speakers. Since I have a media center PC, I wanted to be able to remote control that PC and output the sound direct to the sofa speakers via Bluetooth. The built-in drivers did not allow for this as I required the A2DP Bluetooth profile.

After three hours of searching the most obscure places on the internet, and trawling through numerous forums where I could only find incompatible drivers or dead links, I struck gold. My HTPC now plays sound through to my sofa, and I can play/pause/rewind and volume control the PC from the buttons on my armrest. Sweet!

I always like to post my finds so that people can get easier access, so I have created an entire driver bundle for the Signalex devices, combining all the files and information I obtained from the internet, to enable all the features.

Bundle includes:

  • Filter driver, if your dongle was not automatically detected
  • A2DP Profile (Advanced Audio Distribution)
  • AVRCP Profile (Audio/Video Remote Control)
  • DUN Profile (Dial-up Networking)
  • FTP Profile (File Transfer)
  • HID Profile (Human Interface Device)
  • HSP Profile (Headset)
  • LAN Profile (LAN/Networking Access)
  • OBEX Profile (Object Exchange / Legacy File Transfer)
  • PAN Profile (Personal Area Network)

... which is pretty much everything you would want to do with one of these cheap devices. Note that they aren't the fastest thing in the world - file transfer is painfully slow for example - but what do you expect from such a cheap device? This isn't Bluetooth 4.0 :)

Includes 32 and 64 bit drivers compatible with Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, and Windows 8.

UPDATE 29/.09/2015:
The latest version of Google Chrome is suggesting that this file is "not commonly downloaded" and therefore may be dangerous. These are just warnings and are not virus detections, you can still download the file by choosing "allow" instead of "discard". There is nothing to worry about.

I have included the SHA256 hash under the link above and also ran both the URL and the contents of the file through VirusTotal to prove that the download is safe and genuine.

  2. How did yo manage to install all of the relevant drivers, I went to device manager, selected update driver software and then it selected generic radio automatically from the list of available devices, so I don't get all of the benefits

You could also try the Bluesoleil solution set.

  4. Hi and thanks for this. I just suffered the exact same scenario, but managed to work it out whilst I was reading your post, and so I wanted to share my experience;

On a Windows 7 desktop, I just got "unknown device" every time I plugged in the dongle. I tried a Windows XP machine, and it automatically recognised and installed the Microsoft drivers, which made me stop and think for a moment.

I realised that I'd plugged the dongle into a main motherboard USB port on the XP machine, but was plugging the dongle into a USB hub that was connected to the Windows 7 machine.

    When I tried plugging in the dongle directly into a motherboard port on the Windows 7 machine, it was recognised and auto-installed by Windows as;

    Driver Provider: CSR plc
    Driver Date: 06/11/2006
    Driver Version 1.0.0.370

I did try and update it to the file signalex_csr_bluetooth.zip's driver that you kindly provided, but trying this manually via Device Manager and "Browse My Computer for Driver Software" just saw Windows 7 saying the driver installed was already up to date.

So, if you are getting "unknown device" issues, might be worth plugging it in directly to your target machine, if you are trying to use a USB hub.

Thanks again for your post and sharing the software, and I hope my discovery helps someone too.

    1. The latest Raspbian image has native driver support for the dongle out of the box for all features. You'll probably want to download the bluez-utils and supporting packages to use it however:

sudo apt-get install bluetooth bluez-utils blueman

After installing, check through the docs to learn how to scan, pair and communicate with devices on the command line. If you hate scripting, there is GUI support if you have X installed :)

  8. Liam,
    I thank you.
I bought the dongle from poundland and as you,me and others have found it needs a driver to work. I spent hours looking on the internet for drivers and the only software that would work is the - bluesoieil I had the trial of that running for the 30days as thought in the mean time I would find another solution. As always I never got round to it and the trial expired whilst I was on holiday.
I basically came home to a computer that had no keyboard working(bluetooth keyboard)
I wasnt going to spend £25 on bluesolieil software when I had bought the adapter for a quid so I decided to search to see if other people had had the same problem.
Finding your post made my day, thank you and to be honest this should be made public on the packaging as otherwise it is a complete waste of a quid!
    Thanks again

  9. Mate, thanks for the drivers. I found this page very quickly luckily. The problem is: how do we install them? I ran the "dpinstall" executable and that seems to have done something, but what are all of the other files for? I have 64-bit Windows, so I tried to manually update the generic drivers with the contents in the "profile_x64" folder. However, I got the following error:

"The folder you specified doesn't contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with windows for x64-based systems"

Kind of illogical, isn't it? What could be going wrong. If you provide instructions, you'll be our hero. Thank you!

    1. hi there, make sure to extract all files, I used 7zip but you could just make a folder on your desktop and then drag and drop from zip file. If you are using 64 bit operating system then you should go ahead and install using the 64 bit version otherwise just click the one without 64 (dpinst). hope this helps.

  10. If anyone else found this article because the generic windows drivers worked at first and then you did windows update and everything stopped working (and your bluetooth device drivers got replaced with one non-functional "CSR bluetooth chip"), then to get it working:
    -Open Devices and Printers
-Right-click on the CSR bluetooth and select properties
    -Under hardware tab click propertes,
    On driver tab click "disable"
Then run the driver install (dpinst or dpinst64) from the driver package linked in the article.

Thanks for providing the driver link!

  14. Hello mate, after installing it as you said and pairing with my phone (LG G2 D802) 4 devices showed in Other Devices section. They're all "Peripheral bluetooth device" and there's no drivers in windows update for them. I was googling for their hardware Id's etc but there is no universal solution.

I can send/receive files but there is no audio profiles.

    Can you help?

    ReplyDelete
  15. As you will guess I know very little about driver installation and use but I
also can't get the audio to work as there is no option for the Bluetooth speakers under "Sounds and Audio Devices" - looking at C:\WINDOWS\setupapi.log the installer reports for all of the Signalex drivers "Driver node not trusted, rank changed from 0x00000001 to 0x00008001", it then finds the MS version and ranks that as 0x00000001, runs DIF_SELECTBESTCOMPATDRV and installs the MS version.
Do I have to unistall the MS drivers to get the installer to select the Signalex drivers if using the "dpinst.exe"?

    1. just a guess here but when I inserted the bluetooth dongle into PC I got an icon in task bar (bottom right). use that icon to pair up any peripherals, and then see what options that gives you. I dont have any bluetooth speakers so I couldn't do this myself

  16. Continuation of 6 April 2015 Post. Got dongle working on Windows 7 and Vista machines using preloaded drivers. Still no joy with XP. Enabled Verbose SetUpApi.log and this reports that when verifying bthav.inf against bthav.cat Failed. initially "Error 1168: Element not found" and then "Error 1151: The specified file is not a windows or MS-DOS Program". Does this mean that the .cat files are not correct? The Dpinst.log shows everything is copied and O.K. I've copied the BthAv files from the Vista machine and compared the .inf files and they are the same (except for the DriverVer (and the certificates are good). I still have a few more things to try but does anyone have any ideas what's wrong.

  18. Man you save my life Lol I did 600mb download and I can't do work. Many thanks, I'll make video Tube because I didn't find anything about it Dongle USB Signalex.

  19. Mate, that doesn't work - this is a webpage, not a file explorer window.
Next time, don't be a noob - no offence but it's pretty noobish - upload a ZIP file with a SHA256 checksum so we can tell it's the same file you had on your drive that worked for you - unaltered. If you don't know what a SHA256 Checksum is, google it, very quick and easy to use.

    1. I have deleted the comments with the alternate mirror link on Google Drive and updated the post with the correct working link, including the SHA256 as suggested.

Latest Google Chrome suggests that the file is "not commonly downloaded and may be danagerous" but still allows you to save it off. I will add these notes in the main post and also run it through VirusTotal to show that it's a clean file.

  20. I have updated the post with a new direct link to the original file, and included an SHA256 hash. Apologies for the previous dead link as I didn't realise that the domain name had expired! All should be good now.
